Robert Howarth

Conductor

With a growing reputation as director and conductor of early repertoire Robert Howarth holds the posts of joint Artistic Director of The Avison Ensemble, Assistant Director of English Voices and Co-Principal keyboard player of The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

To date Howarth has conducted the operas of Monteverdi for Welsh National Opera, English Touring Opera and The Birmingham Opera Company; Handel in Hamburg, St Gallen and for English Touring Opera plus Charpentier for Glyndebourne’s Jerwood programme. Concert engagements have included appearances with prestigious ensembles such as The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra, Irish Baroque Orchestra, the St James Baroque Players and Northern Sinfonia. He has recorded the Monteverdi Vespers with the OAE.

During the 2011/12 season he makes his Opera North début conducting a new production of Giulio Cesare, returns to St Gallen for The Fairy Queen and directs programmes with The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and The English Concert.
