Conductor Steven Devine returns to Malta to direct Stradella’s oratorio San Giovanni Battista at the Valetta Baroque Festival. The performances on January 22 and 23 take place in the magnificent setting of St John’s Oratory against the backdrop of the famous Caravaggio painting of (spoiler alert) the Beheading of St John the Baptist. A regular visitor to the island Steven has previous led performance of Handel Belshazzar, Aci Galatea and Polifemo and given harpsichord recitals at the festival.
