Biography

British soprano Stephanie Hershaw is an alumna of the young artists programme at the Landestheater Detmold following her training at the Hochschule für Musik und Theatre, Leipzig, the Royal College of Music and Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.

A member the ensemble at the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater since 2024 Stephanie has sung Romilda Xerxes, Gretel Hansel & Gretel and Ännchen Der Freischütz for the company. In the 25-26 season she sang the title role The Cunning Little Vixen, Sophie Werther and Antonia Tales of Hoffmann in Oldenburg and Mozart and Haydn with The Mozartists in London. She returns to Oldenburg in the 26-27 to sing her first Pamina Die Zauberflöte and her plans include Ariel in The Tempest for Vache Baroque.

Elsewhere Stephanie has appeared as  Barbarina (and cover Susanna) Le nozze di Figaro for Garsington Opera; Lenio in Martinů The Greek Passion for the Danish National Opera and Celia in Handel Silla (Northern Opera Group).

She has sung Najade Ariadne auf Naxos, Zerlina Don Giovanni, Kate Pinkerton Madama Butterfly, Zwangsarbeiterin Lady Macbeth von Mzensk in Detmold; Romilda Xerxes for Landestheater Niederbayern and Papagena The Magic Flute for Waterperry Opera Festival.

A Leeds Lieder Young Artist and Countess of Munster Recital Artist, Stephanie has performed with The Brodsky Quartet as part of the Dante Music Festival and in recital at Leicester Music Festival with her duo partner George Ireland. Her other concert engagements include appearances with choral societies and festivals throughout the UK singing Bach, Handel, Haydn and Vaughan Williams.

Stephanie was a Midori Nishiura Scholar at the Royal College of Music and her studies were generously supported by the Mario Lanza Foundation, The Munster Trust Star Award, The Boas Charitable Trust, The Kathleen Trust, The Clemence Charitable Trust and the Josephine Baker Trust. Her competition successes include 1st prize in Flat Pack Music’s Opera Competition 2021, a Maureen Lehan 2021 Finalist & Prize Winner, and Bundeswettbewerb Gesang Berlin Finalist 2022.
